Welcome, Baby Boy!

Introducing...

Sterling Alan

It is absolutely true that your heart can double in size in an instant. We experienced it when this lil' man made his debut into the world weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Welcome to the world, Sterling Alan! You are loved far beyond measure!

2016 Family Photos

I intended to post these pics right after the Christmas card reveal, but I'm just now getting around to it...10 days later!

Our family photo session was originally scheduled for late October, but Baby Boy got sick and we had to reschedule. Our rescheduled session ended up being the Sunday before Thanksgiving in downtown McKinney. Let me just tell you...that area is a popular place for professional photo sessions! We counted at least eight other photographers, which was really surprising given how late it was in the season. Despite the chaos of trying to find settings not in use by other photographers, Jaime {Storyline Photography} was able to capture fabulous images to document our little family at this point in time.

All the Pumpkin Pictures

Just to give you fair warning...this post is pretty much the definition of a photo dump. It's the last day of November, and I am just now getting around to posting all the pics from our pumpkin patch excursions. I totally planned it this way...wanted to give you a break from all the pumpkin pics that dominated your social media feeds in October.

Huston at the Dallas Arboretum Pumpkin Village, 2016

Visiting a pumpkin patch was one of the top "to do" items on my
Fall Bucket List this year. While there are still several items on the bucket list that have yet to be checked off, I will go ahead and pat myself on the back and say we excelled at the pumpkin patch task!

First stop: Storybook Ranch

We visited Storybook Ranch in McKinney on the first day that it opened {September 24}, so they were still working out a few kinks...which actually worked out in our favor! It wasn't even the slightest bit busy, so we enjoyed all of the activities {petting zoo, hay maze, pony ride, wagon ride through the 1800s western town} without having to wait in line.  My life-long friend, Brandy, and her kids {Preslee & Jake} were in town and joined us for this adventure.

Next up: Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch at Flower Mound was a little overwhelming {i.e. crazy crowded}, so we didn't take the time to wait in line for any of the activities {hayride, pumpkin patch train, bounce houses}...but we still had a great time with our friends Chelsie and Cameron!

Final stop: The Dallas Arboretum

This was our second year to visit the pumpkin village at The Dallas Arboretum...and it didn't disappoint! There's a reason it's referred to as the best pumpkin patch in the state. We went on Columbus Day {since I had the holiday off and Ryan doesn't work on Mondays} thinking it wouldn't be as busy since it was a weekday...WRONG! It was packed! However, I have to say that the Arboretum employees do a fabulous job making it as efficient as possible to park and get through the admission line.

Sooo...after visiting these three fabulous pumpkin patches {all on weekend days}, I feel like I learned two valuable lessons for next year:

1.  Go early in the season,
and
2.  Go early in the morning!

To My Husband on His First Father's Day

Dear Ryan,

Where do I even begin to express my gratitude for the incredible father that you are?

From the first time you held our baby boy in your arms, it's like you were a natural. You instantly mastered skills that I never even came close to conquering {swaddling, shhhhushing}. You've been 100% involved in H's daily life since the day he was born...going above and beyond to make my life as a new momma a little easier in any way that you could. THANK YOU!

Our little guy is 110% your "Mini Me" {just ask anyone that sees the two of you together...including complete strangers!}. Although sometimes I might get a tiny bit jealous that he looks sooooooo much like you, I realize just how lucky I am to get to be the wife/momma of such handsome guys.  It is truly my hope that our son is as much like you on the inside as he is on the outside. I pray for the Lord's guidance in raising him to be a respectful gentleman...a hard-working, patient, loving and generous man, just like his daddy. THANK YOU for being such a solid role model.

Sometimes I just sit back and watch you interact with our baby boy...and it's in those moments when I can clearly see just how exceptional you are as a father. I oftentimes get caught up in the chaos that is our daily lives, and I fail to see all that you do on a daily basis to keep our little family running like a well-oiled machine. When I actually take a moment to fully absorb how well you fill your daddy role, I am overwhelmed with emotions. I always knew you would be a great dad, but you have far exceeded my expectations.  THANK YOU!

Not a day goes by that I don't thank God for putting you by my side to walk this parenting journey. We're just ten months in with a lifetime to go, and I look forward to experiencing all that lies ahead for our little family. For now though, I want to savor every minute...because these really are the moments that memories are made of.  THANK YOU for sharing this life with me...and THANK YOU for being a beyond-incredible daddy to our son!

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

Happy first Father's Day, babe! I love you more than life!

All my love,
Leslie

Motherhood: My Greatest Gift

Mother's Day.

It's always been a special day for me because I'm very close to my mom and love any excuse to celebrate her...and in recent years it's been even more meaningful as I've been able to celebrate my mother-in-law as well {I truly am one of those lucky girls who gained a fabulous mother-in-law when I got married}. This year brings about all types of new emotions as it marks my first Mother’s Day with a child of my own.

As Mother’s Day approaches I’ve been reflecting on the past 8.5 months, and I’ve come to the conclusion there really aren’t words to relay how overwhelmingly awesome this whole “being a mom” gig is for me. Motherhood is the greatest gift I've ever been given. Nothing in my life thus far has been more astounding…no greater challenge…no love so profound.

To keep with the "Five on Friday" theme, here are a few of the emotions I experience each and every day…

Unconditional Love: there is absolutely nothing in this world that could hinder the love that I feel for our baby boy. That saying about children being equivalent to your heart walking around outside your body...no statement has ever been truer {even though my external heart isn't walking just yet!}. The love that I feel for that tiny little babe is so intense that sometimes it almost hurts. It brings tears to my eyes…happy tears, tears of joy, thankful tears. I now know exactly what my mom meant when she continuously told me, “nothing compares to a mother’s love.”

Amazement: sometimes I look at him and still find myself in shock and amazement that he's here and that he's ours. He's so perfect and innocent. His growth and development...the way he teaches himself how do to things {roll over, sit up, crawl}...it all just amazes me.

Fear: it absolutely terrifies me that this little boy's entire life is in our hands. We are fully responsible for teaching him right from wrong, good from bad...molding him into the man he will become. Will we do it right? Where is the instruction manual for raising a respectful, hard-working, loving gentleman? Perhaps I'll ask my mother-in-law for that manual because I'd be more-than-proud for my son to grow up to treat his wife and family {and everyone around him} like his daddy treats us.

Gratitude: I thank the Lord every single day for blessing us with the privilege of being Huston's parents. We definitely do not take for granted that we have a healthy, happy baby boy.

Mom-Guilt: Although it's gotten a little bit easier over the past couple of months, a part of my heart still hurts every single weekday when I leave the house in the morning to go to work. Our little guy is in great hands at home with Maria {we're beyond grateful for our incredible nanny!}, but I want to be the one who is there with him day-in and day-out. A part of me knows that being a full-time working mom makes me a better, more-engaged mom during the time that I do have with him...but that still doesn't take away those feelings of wishing I could be at home with him all the time. I don't let these feelings overwhelm me too often because I'm proud of the "professional woman/working mom" example I'm setting for our son. And like I said when I came back to work, I truly believe that spending QUALITY time with him over quantity of time makes me a better momma.

To my sweet Baby Huston: I wouldn't be celebrating this holiday if it weren't for you. Thank you for making me a momma. I love you beyond measure!

Happy Mother's Day!

Easter Celebration 2016

Pictures say it so much better than words, so I'll just let the photos do most of the talking in this post.

I happen to think this lil' Easter Bunny is pretty cute...

I had Good Friday off of work, so Huston and I ventured down to Lee Park to have his picture taken with the bunnies. James French Photography was taking the photos, so it will be a week or so before we get the professional image in the mail, but here's what I snapped from my phone...

On Saturday, Huston and I met Ryan at Stonebriar for the Easter EGGstravaganza. We posed with the Easter Bunny...
#PictureOfAPicture

...we checked out the petting zoo...

...and we had lunch with Daddy {too bad Daddy isn't pictured!}...

On Easter morning we woke up early to get ready for church {we go to the 8:30 am service}...

The beginning of a tradition: a family photo on Easter morning

After church we came home to find that the Easter Bunny had left baskets for the whole family...

I had so much fun putting H's Easter basket together, but the Hide & Squeak Eggs were pretty much the only thing he cared about {after he threw every.single.thing out of his basket}. Speaking of his Easter basket, thank you Grandma Jo for this fabulous gift, a special tradition among all the Martin grandkids.

I lost count of how many times we read "The Easter Story" book, but that's ok because it's never to early to start teaching our baby boy the true meaning of the holiday.

What a great weekend with our little family celebrating the resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ.

He is Risen!
